Send in the Dominicans! |
Yes, one of our great historical Catholic figures (I said great, not necessarily, good) is to be re-interred in a Protestant church with a Protestant ritual. H/T to Deacon Nick and Ttony for this information.
This is the equivalent of burying the Chief Rabbi of England and Wales (after his death, of course) in a Muslim cemetery following a service in the local mosque.
Unthinkable.
But, the decision has been made, Archbishop Nichols has written* to our beloved Prime Minister who now plays Robin to Obama's Batman.
* Ttony points out that he and not ++ Nichols, wrote the letter as a piece of excellent satire - it will teach me to read posts more slowly.
What to do?
Maybe ++ Nichols might like to consider embarrassing David Cameron by celebrating a Latin Mass on the same day and at the same hour as the re-burial service?
Or, His Grace could send in a battalion of Dominican Friars to seize the remains during the ceremony and remove them to a place of safety (a Catholic place of safety).
Which do you favour?
Richard, for the record: mine was satire, the letter ++Vincent should have written, even if it is unimaginable that he would.
ReplyDeleteOutrageous. Not necessarily to embarrass the Prime Minister, absolutely Archbishop Nichols should offer a traditional Mass at the same time.....and widely publicized in the newspapers. Lord have mercy, what are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteTtony.....my dreams are now totally shattered...I thought, for one minute, that ++ VN was leading us.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe you are that naive!!
DeleteI'm all for sending in the Dominicans (but then I would!) ;-)
ReplyDeleteI favour both and quick, more Church Militant acts against these arrogant people.
ReplyDeleteLynda...more a forlorn hope.
ReplyDeleteDo not expect any protests from the English Bishops. They are only too happy to take part in Anglican services and see a Catholic King re-buried in a protestant cathedral.Once again the fort has been betrayed.
ReplyDeleteTo counteract this I would like to see all the traditional societies arrange requiem masses at the same time as the protestant service. If any of these could be in the Sarum Rite so much the better.
Pfhhh no-one is going to do anything, sigh.... We shall all be walked over as usual....
ReplyDeleteSS - sadly, I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteAnglican pomposity.
ReplyDeleteWell Richard why not email Fr Tattersall of the Newman community here in Melbourne and see if he could have a latin mass on the same day -AEST- for ing Richard III
The Dominicans at Holy Cross Priory in Leicester use the Dominican Rite on occasion, and since this predates Trent by three centuries, it would have been celebrated in England in King Richard's day.
