"There's something wrong with the Church..."

A video clip featuring Bishop Fellay of the SSPX...what's not to like?

H/T to California Latin Mass

Yes, I do know that there are difficulties between Rome and Econe but, can you honestly say that +Bernard Fellay is a raging heretic or schismatic?

I have met this man.

He epitomises saintliness. I attended a Mass that he celebrated and I received the Blessed Sacrament from him.

He also, incidentally, consecrated a chalice for my family chapel.

I approached him before Mass with the request (at the time we had a small chapel in Pembrokeshire, where we said a 'dry' mass most Sundays and then had a real Mass whenever a priest came to stay).

Bishop Fellay was most suspicious, wary, I guess, of anything dodgy in the way of sedevacantism or the demonic.

He gave me a thorough interrogation; this was not going to be easy.

"Why are you having Mass in a private chapel?"

"Why do you not attend a normal Latin Mass?"

"Who is this priest who comes to say Mass for you?"

Eventually he said: "Come back and see me after Mass, I will give the matter some thought"

He walked off with my precious chalice in his hands.

And, when I went to the sacristy after Mass he told me that he was prepared to consecrate the chalice. Phew!

But first, he had to write out an attestation of consecration - in Latin - fluently and without thinking, as if it were his first language.

A fragment of Catholic history - Bishop Fellay's note of consecration
for a chalice

I am not, by choice an SSPX follower.
25 years ago they were the only option for a traditional Catholic family living hundreds of miles from the bright city lights.

The Society carries it's own agenda of problematical issues, foremost of which, is the puritanical attitude of some of their priests.

But, can you really fault them?

If you stood one SSPX priest alongside one of our OF only priests you might be shocked at the physical distinction, let alone the spiritual.

The Society priests bear the mark of the cross and it shows in their faces and in their demeanour and, who knows, before long we might all be beating a path to their door.

  2. Excellent post. I believe wholeheartedly everything you say. The difference between even the regular EF priests and OF priests is stark.

  3. Richard I am not shy at being critical of some of your posts are you are well aware therefore due praise and credit where it is due. I have been a SSPX supporter from the very earliest days and had the privilege of meeting Archbishop Lefebvre on a number of occasions. I agree that the Society does have some difficulties but they are our only real bulwark in these dreadful times.

    Inroibo - swoon....thank you.

Sandy...I keep saying 'me too' to your comments, but, I mean it.

  6. A gift for you....truth.
Our heavenly Father will NOT put any child of his into a hell fire no matter what their sins, whether they repent or not. Sin doesn't scare God! He created it Isa 45:7 to teach us all the knowledge of good and evil Gen 3:22 for our eternal placement in his coming kingdom. Throwing a child of his into a hell fire has never entered the heart or mind of God to ever do such a thing Jer 7:31, Jer 19:5. Anyone preaching a hell fire for any child of God has been deceived into teaching lies. The whole world has been believing in a god of hate murder and revenge (The devil Rev 12:9). The true word of God John 1:1 is now delivered Rev 12:5 here http://thegoodtale.blogspot.com/

God chose a woman Rev 12 to be the prophet like unto Moses Num 12:3 and boldly like Elijah Matt 17:3, Acts 3:21-23, Luke 1:17. Those professing themselves to be Christians would be wise to hear all Acts 3:23 BEFORE making any judgment. The proof of what I tell you is in the hearing.
The true Gospel is now delivered to you from the wilderness Rev 12:6 as a witness Matt 24:14. Prove ALL things 1 Thes 5:21. Satan has deceived the whole world Rev 12:9 until now. Turn your heart to the children of God for a better placement in God's world Rev 21, Ezek 37:26. Now you can know the true God.

  7. I have been a supporter of the SSPX for the last thirty years and have met priests from England,Scotland,France,Italy,Ireland,Canada,New Zealand and the USA. Each and everyone is a credit to the priesthood. They have obviously received a wonderful formation. One day the church will recognise this legacy and the man responsible for it Archbishop Levebre. To-day Bishop Fellay is carrying on the good work. Yes there are difficulties but considering the enormity of the task the society is faced with it would be unusual if there were not any.

  8. I attend the SSPX.

We have a brilliant Priest who preaches the whole truth and nothing but it.

His homilies are very though-provoking for one so young. He's very learned. His pronunciation of latin is amazing.

Going to the SSPX is like entering another world. A Catholic world which is how it should be. You breathe the Faith there in every aspect.

The reverence for the Mass, the kindness of the people who go, the amazing homilies, etc. It's all good. It's absolutely absurd to call them schismatics. We're just doing what we always did. Nothing more.

And great post, Mr. Collins. You're blessed to have met His Excellancy, Bishop Fellay.

    God bless.

    ~Hannah

  9. I think I agree with you Richard. I don't have much experience of the SSPX, and I would choose an FSSP or Christ the King parish over theirs any day, but they are not the monsters that many Catholics make them out to be and I find most of the things said about them totally ridiculous. From what I saw when I was at their parish for a few days, they were good, faithful Catholics who were committed to celebrating a perfect and reverent mass and making their lives as perfect (in the eyes of God) as possible.

The problem is when someone says that they will attend an event or a mass only if it is organised by the SSPX, even if the event that they are being invited to is traditional. That is absurd. Are they members of Holy Mother Church or the SSPX church? How is this attitude any better than that of Protestants? I am not saying that everyone in the SSPX is like that but that is a line of thinking present amongst those loyal to the SSPX, isn't it?
