My thanks to James Preece for sending me the following information.....
"It is unlawful for the non-ordained faithful to assume titles such as "pastor", "chaplain", "coordinator", " moderator" or other such similar titles which can confuse their role and that of the Pastor, who is always a Bishop or Priest.(58)"

Pity the Archbishop is unaware of Canon law, thought it would be in the job description though.
ReplyDeleteI have pointed this out time and time again here in the Archdiocese of Liverpool - to schools when they send me information and to "lay" chaplains. I've never had anyone indicate that they took the slightest bit of interest in canon law. Yet another area in which the Church's own definitions and rules are routinely ignored. Pointing out the Church's law and rules is designated as "the wrong attitude" "the wrong tone". This from sources too high up in the hierarchy for me to mention them by name.
ReplyDeleteThank you Father. It was good meeting you recently.
