More than ever I feel the need of having Thee close to me. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Corinthians 12:7-10
Must be just a fad!....Not to be taken seriously!
ReplyDeleteI think that to be a little close to the knuckle - though their reputation today is a little shady in places, soon after their foundation there were many holy martyrs amongst them in the UK.
ReplyDeleteIt is hardly fair to criticise the Jesuits for not being involved in the Pilgrimage of Grace. Their heroism in England was, subsequently, inferior to none. Ss Edmund Campion SJ, Robert SouthwellSJ, Nicholas OwenSJ and Blessed Edward OldcorneSJ are a few who come readily to mind!
ReplyDeleteMaryclare and Patricius, yes, I was really being facetious. I have the greatest respect for the 'Js' of the 16th-19th centuries and for priests like Frs Tigar and Thwaites.
DeleteModern day Jezzies are too often out behind the gym smoking loco weed.
ReplyDeleteGem, yes, in their sweatshirts and jeans.
DeleteAlmost a year before my son started secondary school, a Jesuit one (in name anyway), two teachers from the school came round to interview my son in our home regarding the prospect of his joining the school. It was some time after, I discovered one of them was a Jesuit priest. He had given no indication whatever to us. It was not right to deceive practising Catholics in such a situation. I would have asked him to bless my son and myself.
DeleteI can't remember. Had the Jesuits been invented yet at the time of the time? Although I do get the point.
ReplyDeleteDymphna, the 'Js' were a mere 2 years old then.
DeleteI'm reading Malachi Martin's book on the ruination of the Jesuits. Their schools are great places for students to lose, nay, develop contempt for, the one, true Faith.
