March 17th is the one day in the year when most people in the world discover that they have Irish blood in their veins.
I am no exception.
My Great Grandparents (Cornelius Collins and Catherine Goggin) left Ballydehob in County Cork in 1845 and set out to find a world free of famine and oppression.
So, to celebrate, whilst I do like the rather schmaltzy hymn, 'Hail glorious St Patrick', The Lorca of St Patrick aka St Patrick's Breastplate, raises the tone a little.

Yes, St. Patrick's feast day should be a day to honor a glorious saint, not just to wear green, get drunk and talk about leprachans. He claimed Ireland for Christ and drove out the snakes of paganism. May St. Patrick pray for us. +JMJ+

Goggins!
ReplyDeleteLove that name Richard. Wasn't there a radio comedy about the Goggin Family years ago? I played Granny G. in a Youth Club production, had a super time with it.
My Gran from County Cork was an O'Keef!!!!! 'Conversions all round' with her. So 1/4 Irish - me. Blessings of St Patrick to you and all your loved ones.
A bit late in the day but- sentiment still stands.
ReplyDeleteDrink a round to Ireland.
