Abuses within the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate? Come on....

Cardinal Raymond Burke has been a firm advocate of the
Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in the past
Picture: Eucharist and Mission blog

.....this affair has become a festering wound that is in dire need of sound medical attention if it is not to develop into a full blown infection.

I suspect that we will never learn the full story of who did or said what but I am certain of one thing, Pharasaic hypocrisy is in the air.

Just what is the FFI Order supposed to have done?

What foul offence have they committed?

Celebrating too many Masses in the Extraordinary Form?

Not paying enough attention to the Ordinary Form?    Whatever.

It pales into insignificance in comparison with clown Masses, ad lib liturgy, nuns and priests who openly disregard the teachings of HMC and, Catholic Funds being invested in porn publishing houses...what next?

Maybe.......funds being diverted into abortuaries to support those medical teams and counsellors so intent upon destroying life in the womb?

German and Austrian Catholicism seems to be in total meltdown and yet, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate have been singled out and an 'outside' regime installed curtailing the celebration of 'the Mass of all Time', ordinations and apparently closing several of their communities.

An Order that, less than two years ago was feted as being the model of reverence and piety, is now seemingly hounded relentlessly while those who flaunt Catholic doctrine go free.

There are many posts on this affair but I particularly like Donald McClarey's at The American Catholic
and, if anyone wishes to comment, please do so reasonably and also not anonymously.

Failure to do either may result in obliteration (of your comment, I mean)

  1. For those who remember the 1970s, this is too grindingly familiar. I'm afraid the wolves have returned with renewed appetite to tear apart the hermeneutic of continuity. To believe that it might be other than what it appears would be credulous in the extreme.
We have one weapon and that is prayer with faith in Christ's promise to His Church.

  2. Again, I believe this is over the top. perhaps you need to read the Friars Facebook page, especially the declaration of one of the Founders, Fr. Stephano. I have great respect for these people and I think we should all respect their wishes in this matter. They refer to "internal" matters...in other words, it is not anyone's business to get involved in this matter either by setting up petitions, writing letters to the Pope or anything other than the clear requests made by the Friars themselves; https://www.facebook.com/pages/Franciscan-Friars-of-the-Immaculate/100733584481

  3. Dear Fr. Abberton

If there is nothing 'extraordinary' (sorry for the pun) about the events surrounding the FFI, when why are the 'nuns on the bus' not being assigned a Commissar commissioner, being ordered to cease attending /organising call to action conferences and promoting lifestyles contrary to the teachings of the Church? Also why is Fr. Volpi 'demanding' that no FFI use the EF, accusing them of 'crypto leferbivrism'? Also don't give me the baloney about 'internal matters', this wouldn't be the first time that religious superiors have tried to silence people by twisting the vow of obedience.

  4. Fr John Abberton is not the best man to comment on controversies, since he is the main UK Catholic apologist and advocate of the discredited "seer" Vassula Ryden, whose deviant teachings have been the subject of many official warnings from Rome. Sorry, Father, but you need to get in line with your Church.

  5. Fr.,

With respect, this is not and cannot be an internal matter,

    a) once it has come out into the light of day and important issues are seen to be at stake. Remember we live in the 21st century with an internet informed, and generally literate laity, and,

    b) now that there are many members of the laity, I presume, who have been and are rightly expecting to continue to be, provided with the fully legitimate and ancient form of the Mass, the Vetus Ordo, which has been provided by the Friars, a Mass which they, they the laity must be provided with under Quo Primum and Summorum Pontificum.

    1. Grave scandal has been caused by what is being done to the FFI. The scandal is further compounded when those with a voice ignore apparent injustice against a most faithful institute, in the name of the Holy See.

  6. Jacobi, the problem is that the Friars do not agree with you - see that statement on their Facebook. My point is that if we want to help them we should do as they ask and keep out of it. If you want to continue suggesting that the Pope (not you personally) is somehow going to stop the Extraordinary Rite or something similar then that is another matter. It seems to me that whenever something looks like a negative against the ER people jump. For the record I celebrate the ER twice a month and would do so more often if I could. In my diocese we have no problem with the provision and I suspect this is true elsewhere. In my view there is no need for this alarm and we should let the Friars get on with their own business.

  7. "we should let the Friars get on with their own business"

I agree - and so should Fr Volpi.

sound familiar? is there is anyone left in Rome who is friend of Christ's Church?
