Cardinal Burke's withdrawal - a sad loss

In his letter cancelling the engagement, Cardinal Raymond Burke cited Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice's critical remarks on the Bishops of England and Wales.

Cardinal Raymond Burke - "Not right
for me to give a presentation in any place which
in any way would reflect the lack of respect
for the office of Bishop in that place"

Comments such as..... “our bishops are obdurate in their refusal to allow our glorious Catholic faith to be taught in our schools” were the main cause of His Eminence's decision to cancel. He saw the proposed talk, quite rightly, as being an excellent opportunity for PEeP to lambast the Bishops.

Now, I am all for lambasting Bishops if they deserve it but, this was a golden opportunity to provide a platform for the Cardinal to speak, equably on the chosen subject, "The Restoration of Church Discipline and Evangelisation."

If the pre talk PR had not been so focused on bashing the Bishops, Cardinal Burke would still be planning to come. It does seem as if Daphne Macleod has shot herself in the foot on this occasion. Such a pity. Such a loss.

Mrs Macleod defended her stance by stating that they (PEeP) were "whistleblowers" and, as a result had enemies. Next time, if there is one, "Softly, softly catchee monkey" is not a bad maxim to observe.

  1. This whole event, from what I have read has left people with huge bills to pay, obviously a lot of worry too.

I wonder how much prayer beforehand went on. Also, listening out for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A work of God must invoke God, prayer, supplication, fasting etc. You can bet old nick worked tirelessly for the outcome he desired.....and got!

  2. Hi Richard, do you speak Welsh? I looking for someone to translate the GK Chesterton pray on my blog today; http://ecumenicaldiablog.blogspot.com/2011/06/gk-chesterton-novena-starts-sunday-5th.html

  3. Sorry Stuart - the answer is dim! I don't even know of a Catholic Welsh speaker. Pembrokeshire is, as you know, very Anglicized in that respect.

  5. I have been asked to place a comment on behalf of Gail Mills:
"So sorry to hear of another welching member of the Hierarchy letting Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice and their Catholic Community down.
We know that it would not have been allowed to happened to a dissident group as it would have "lacked charity to embarrass and let them down so publicly" .

In my Diocese we have had, over the years, dissident speakers allowed to use our Bishop's Parish rooms promoting women priests amongst other subjects in that vein.

We have had a well known advisor to The National Bishop's Conference with Paediaphile sympathies touring British Diocese being welcomed as guest speaker (who's books were recommended reading for Seminarians while Thomas Aquinas ' were then not)

We know of Hierarchy turning up to a Priest celebrations even though it was held in a Gay Bar with transvestites as Doorman/Women and unsavoury content in the entertainment.

We know about the Hierarchy attending the Mass and celebrations of the "living together" /marrige of 25 years of an ex priest and his partner who are high profile charactors in Catholic circles of Westminster

I could go on; and these disgraceful things do go on ond on and on................

Didn't the Cardinal know that Cardinal Basil Hume was a guest speaker at one of the Faith of Our Fathers events so it is not such a disgrace for him to attend and anyway, he could have put Daphne and co in their place if he heard anything he didn't like.
But what Daphne says is true. I myself met a priest at the Popes visit who had been born and raised in my home town. OOOOh! Which of the Catholic schools did he attend? None. Aaaah! so that is why he is a priest.
Meet youthful practising Catholics and you will find so many have not attended Catholic schools. My daughter is engaged to just such one, he was allowed to be excluded from Sex ED. and R.E. in his secular school. He was able to keep his faith.

I am not an inexperienced mum. I had 6 children who went to Catholic schools and colleges and it was not until they attended the secondary and 6th forms that the fight for their souls began in earnest and it was thanks to my father and all the support from Daphne and her likes that kept me up to par with the right weapons to use.

Five of my children are now practising, the one who doesn't studied Theology in the "Catholic" College, she would come home and I would overhear snippits of the things she learnt eg; Our Lord was not born in Bethlehem!! All lies she would tell the other children. How I wish I'd gone into that college and asked to see what she was being given to read. she knew I would if she said too much so kept it from my ears for a long time. She also became an abortion sympathiser whilst in the college's care. So sad.

This is not the time to go all whimpy or to "suck up" to the in crowd nor to try and keep your head down. Remember your Confirmation vows and the spirit it demands of us; it is a fight we are in, truly a fight. Daphne and her supporters are practising what many a Saint did, and what Pope Benedict the XVI demanded our Bishops to go back and do during their last Ad Limina; which is to proclaim the Gospel even to be martyred for it".

Yours, in the spirit of St Joan of Arc.
