Martin Luther - a priest "in good standing"

Blessed Martin Luther

News from Rome that Martin Luther has been restored "to his rightful position in the Church" and has had his faculties restored posthumously,  has been greeted with lots of hugs and squeals of delight from the members of the group known as HERETIC.

A spokesperson for HERETIC stated that:

"It is only right that, in our inclusive non judgemental Church,  we right the errors committed by less enlightened Catholics in the past."

Rumours abound that Archbishop Cranmer, Richard Topcliffe and Oliver Cromwell are to have their causes for beatification put forward this year and that some miracles have been attributed to Vlad the Impaler and Pol Pot who may also be put forward for sainthood at a later date.

  1. Some hilarious Tweets from @flannerytony, which of course are nothing to do with this post:

Delighted for Sean Fagan. Wonder is it only due to "advanced age", or a sign of the end of an era of repression. Let us hope!

If the reason Sean Fagan was "pardoned" has to do with advanced age, I hope it is many years before I qualify for that!!

Seems that all the CDF have done for Sean Fagan is remove the threat of laicisation; but the sanctions are still in place! Big deal!!!!

    I don't need to add a comment, do I?

  2. @ Eccles

If it's on ground of advanced age, Martin Luther looks like a cert. Tough on Pol Pot though.

  3. ABOVE
    ALL
    SHADOWS

    The shadows are dark
    They meld into one
    But “above all shadows
    Rides the sun”.

    The shadows are cold
    The warmth they shun
    But “above all shadows
    Rides the sun”.

    Purity preferred
    The shadows want none
    But “above all shadows
    Rides the sun”.

    And the abandoned priests
    Who won’t be out done
    Bravely elevate…
Where “above all shadows rides the sun”.

  4. Now, um, Vlad the Impaler, I'll back.

We need a little Oliver to stand up to Fagan...

(Sexual morality, so passé in the Catholic Church now...)

  5. Vlad the Impaler, a bat-like Christian if ever there was one...

    1. Those poor little bat-like marginalised Christians. Now there's Papal "inequality" for you...

  6. Richard,
Sad possibility, even probability, that what you write in this post could come to pass!

  7. If Francis is still the pope in 2017 (500th anniversary of the Deformation) you may find that this post becomes prophetic.

  8. Entertaining post, if not the most charitable one (love the Vlad the Impaler line).
Naively (no doubt) I was excited by the headline, and eagerly jumped at the link, hoping (against hope) that maybe (just maybe) the ecclesiastical dignitaries had seen sense (for once) and really beatified this (canonical) Christian.
    Alas, not.
    Sadly disillusioned,
    Anthony Daly

    1. "Canonical Christian" Mr Daly? I do love a dry sense of humour.
