70 years ago today and our fate was on a razor's edge....

American troops receive Holy Communion (kneeling and by mouth)
at Vierville-sur-Mer after D Day 1944
This is a re-post from a couple of years ago...but, I hope we never forget the sacrifices made by the young men and women who fought for our freedom:-

  1. As someone who missed serving in the last war by only 15 years (!) my personal gratitude is beyond expression.

Looking at the U.K. as it is now, and echoing the words of my stepfather (8th Army service in North Africa, Italy) who saw his own brother killed in the invasion of Sicily, I sometimes question whether Britain as it is now was worth fighting and dying for.

Faith has been broken with those who gave their lives.

  2. Sadly,

There will be more wars to come, albeit of a different type/form.
Whether we as a society will be as prepared as earlier generations, morally, in committment, and as important, in the understanding of what forces are at work, I have some doubts.

  3. Jacobi ,from and Australian perspective I could not agree more.
Personal peace and affluence will over rule moral and spiritual commitment
