Sic transit gloria mundi

Fr Tim Finigan posted recently on his proposed trip to Rome and how the cry would go up, uttered by a Franciscan at the coronation of a Pope, "Sic transit gloria mundi" which some folk believe translates as "Thus passes the glory of the world".
But, as every schoolboy knows, the real translation is:
"My girlfriend was ill in the campervan at the start of the week"

Apologies Father T - enjoy Rome!

  1. Ha, Ha! I liked it. Somehow I think this translation is going to stick with me!
